Dea Matrona return with new song “My Own Party”, the third release from their upcoming second album ‘Hate That I Care’, out 5th June 2026, along with a colourful music video.
Recorded, written and produced entirely by the band, “Hate That I Care” marks a bold and self-assured step forward for Mollie McGinn and Orláith Forsythe. Leaning further into alt-rock, the record showcases a sharper, more confident sound while diving deeper into themes of identity, pressure and self-reflection.
“My Own Party” leans into a punchy, melodic sound, with driving drums, vibrant guitars and rich vocal harmonies in the chorus. It’s slightly angsty but built around a really strong, hooky topline. Lines like “Always feeling like an outsider at my own party / picked up the bottle and I let myself down” cut through and give a sense of what’s going on beneath it.
Speaking about the song, Dea Matrona shares:
“My Own Party is about toxic relationships where no matter what you do, there’ll always be a part of you they can’t accept and how consuming alcohol can be a coping mechanism in these situations”.
Across ‘Hate That I Care’, Dea Matrona take a more personal approach, reflecting on expectations, pressure and their own experiences. The album captures the tension between external pressures and internal truths, balancing raw energy with moments of vulnerability.
To celebrate the release of “My Own Party” and their upcoming album, Dea Matrona will host a secret party in East London next Thursday 14th May at 19:30. The event comes ahead of their performance at The Great Escape 2026 on Friday 15th May, with further dates including a support slot for Wolf Alice in Belfast on 29 August 2026.
Dea Matrona’s rise has been driven by constant touring and standout live performances. From busking on the streets of Belfast to stages at Reading & Leeds Festival, Electric Picnic and Rock Werchter, they have built a devoted and rapidly growing fanbase. Fresh from touring with Canadian rock favourites The Beaches, they are set to join Sting on tour across Europe and perform at the Isle of Wight Festival this summer, bringing their new era to even bigger stages.
